Rogers caves to demand, will carry the BlackBerry Z30 after all

 

 rather surprising about-face, Rogers announced today that despite earlier assertions to the contrary, the Canadian carrier will, indeed, carry the newly announced BlackBerry Z30. It initially told The Globe and Mail that it was going to pass on the latest BlackBerry handset due to limited shelf space and wanting to just pick "the biggest winners." However, apparently there was such demand for the phone from BlackBerry loyalists that Rogers has changed its tune. In a statement released today, Rogers not only states that this was in response to "customers' feedback and excitement about the device" but that it also has a "longstanding partnership with BlackBerry" and will "continue to be big supporters of the company and their products." There's no pricing or availability just yet, though Rogers did say it'll be available online, through its national reservation system and to its enterprise customers. So, if you're a Rogers customer who simply must get your hands on the latest handset from Waterloo, you're in luck. Because, let's face it, you might not have the chance ever again.

Instagram may have missed the initial iOS 7 update run last week, but the retooled iPhone app is good to go now. Version 4.2, available for download today, brings design tweaks that mesh better with the latest iOS, with a slightly simpler interface and rounded profile pictures in the feed. Apple sells nine million new iPhones in three days

Apple just set a new all-time record for iPhone launch sales: it reports selling nine million total iPhone 5s and 5c units this weekend, well over the 5 million of the iPhone 5 launch last year. While the company isn't breaking down sales by individual models, it notes that the initial iPhone 5s supply has already sold out. The company also mentioned that more than 200 million devices are already running iOS 7. That's the fastest software upgrade in history, according to Apple. While it's difficult to put the sales and download figures into context without directly comparable numbers from rivals, it's clear that the new devices are off to a strong start. Samsung Galaxy S4 Active from AT&T hands-on (video)

We just went hands-on for the first time with Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active a scant few hours ago, and here we are taking yet another look at it this afternoon in an AT&T variant that showed up at a New York City tech event. The specs and bullet points are identical to the model we checked out earlier today: a 5-inch (TFT LCD) 1080p display (443 ppi), a 1.9GHz quad-core processor, LTE radios and Android 4.2.2, an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash out back, and up to two-megapixel stills in front. This model, however, is the one US AT&T customers will get their hands-on tomorrow for $200 (with two-year contract, of course). How does it fare? Well, identically to the model we checked out earlier today. But hey, have a look at the model you'll actually get in your hands stateside come tomorrow!
