Galaxy S4, S3, Note 2 primed to pair with Samsung's smartwatch

News: Samsung on Monday made it clear that it's readied an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update that will let certain US smartphones pair with the company's Galaxy Gear smartwatch. This announcement dovetails with an earlier statement that Samsung would push out the update on a global scale.

The Premium Suite software package will give the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 smartphones the enhancements they need to work with the new smartwatch, a USD 300 accessory which was previously available only with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Owners of the Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Mini, and Galaxy Mega phones, who also aim at the Gear, need to hold tight: the update for these phones is slated for "the coming months." In addition to Android 4.3 features and Galaxy Gear compatibility, the Premium Suite brings a few Samsung extras to the camera, such as a split-screen mode, and a simplified home screen option.

Samsung sold over 40 million Galaxy S4s in six months

Sure, Samsung's sold more than 38 million Galaxy Notes since late 2011, but its latest flagship puts that number to shame. According to a Korean publication, the company has sold 40 million Galaxy S4 units worldwide, just six months after the device hit the market. It's a hearty milestone, although it's not a particularly surprising one -- the phone moved more than 10 million units in its first month alone. Samsung's JK Shin didn't give inews24 specifics on how the sales broke down between the device's assorted models, but we're betting that the golden S4 didn't take the lion's share

Samsung seems to have slashed the prices of its two premium mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy S III in India. It is not clear whether the price cut is part of a limited period festival offer or not.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is now available for Rs. 25,400 compared with Rs. 28,900 earlier while the Galaxy S4 mini will be now available for Rs. 23,360 (16GB model) down from the previous price tag of Rs. 27,990, at Samsung's official online store. Both the smartphones have seen a price cut of around Rs. 4,000.
