Facebook joins the GSM Association to stay in sync with carriers

HTC First
NewsFacebook has a vested interest in the phone world between its hundreds of millions of mobile users and the Home interface. It's only fitting, then, that the social network has just joined the GSM Association. The company tells FierceWirelessthat it wants to play an "active role" in the GSMA as an associate member. The move should help Facebook both maintain its cozy relationships with carriers and understand their concerns. Membership could also be useful for Facebook's attempts to democratize internet access through Internet.org -- when it's already enlisting the help of wireless providers, a formal alliance with those networks is only logical.

Verizon 'Ellipsis' Android tablet and trademark leak out, hint at a new wireless effort

Verizon 'Ellipsis' Android tablet and trademark leak out, hint at a new wireless effort
NewsSerial product shot leaker @evleaks is showing off pics of a new tablet tonight, tagged as the Verizon Ellipsis 7, 2013. It looks like a standard 7-inch Android tablet, albeit with some overly heavy bezel action, but there's little else to go on regarding where it's from and how it may arrive. The rest of the puzzle may be filled in, however, by a trademark for "Ellipsis" and "Ellipsis 7" that FierceCable dug up just a few days ago, and imagines could cover a new service / device. Filed by Verizon Wireless, the Ellipsis application covers a "wireless telecommunications device featuring transmission of voice, data, image and video", while Ellipsis 7 includes tablet computers and other wireless devices. So now we know what the hardware is called and what it looks like, but what it does is still unclear, although recent Verizon moves like ending its wireless partnership with cable companies, rumors that it will purchase Intel's IPTV technology and the Corvair / FiOS Companion tablet that popped up last year are enough to keep our imaginations humming.

Nike+ FuelBand SE unveiled with new colors, Bluetooth 4.0, priced at $149

Nike announces Fuel
The sportswear giant from Beaverton, Oregon has just unveiled its latest fitness-oriented wearable -- say hello to the Nike+ FuelBand SE. This refreshed edition looks nearly identical to its predecessor, but comes in black with total crimson (a mix of orange and red), pink foil or volt (a yellow and greenish neon) accents. Nike's hoping to get FuelBand users to move even more throughout the day with this edition, thanks to some "fine-tuning" to how your Fuel is tracked. Namely, the new unit can identify actual movement better, rather than counting things like ambiguous wrist flicks. You'll also get better flexibility and weather sealing, hourly reminders to move, Bluetooth 4.0 and a double-tap function for the home button that'll bring up the time.
